STEP 01

Overview

"Ilham's Guide" draws on expert insight built around an app originally called this guide, created by an industry expert (founder, ex-Amazon software engineer, content creator) and Claire (co-founder/fiancée, software engineer at Jeppesen ForeFlight, handles a lot of product/QA work). The app's core pitch is a "Duolingo for system design": a short daily practice loop (one curated question a day, multiple-choice and ordering questions, a stats/history view, and a growing library of mini-lessons) meant to build system design intuition through spaced, bite-sized repetition rather than long-form study.

The server is organized into three broad categories:

  • Careers - career-growth (long-term career strategy) and networking (introductions/the field-building)
  • System Design Core - deep-dives (open-ended technical discussion), design-reviews (peer/founder review of personal projects, plus expert-led planned office hours), interview-prep (interview experiences, company-specific intel, tactical advice)
  • GTM & Beyond - go-to-market (marketing/positioning/business strategy for people building their own products)
  • the field & Social - random (general discussion, product feedback, culture)

the industry skews toward: students and new grads prepping for internships/full-time roles, early/mid-career engineers leveling up system design skills, career-changers moving into tech or into infra/DevOps/SRE roles, and a handful of solo founders/indie hackers building their own products in parallel.
